                                          Grudges & Disagreements

If Someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1John 4:20)

In The Weight of Glory, C.S. Lewis wrote: To forgive the incessant provocations of daily life - to keep on forgiving the bossy mother-in-law; the bullying husband, the nagging wife, the selfish daughter, the deceitful son -- how can we do it?

Only, I think, by remembering where we stand, by meaning our words when we say in our prayers each night "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us". We offer forgiveness on no other terms. To refuse it is to refuse God's mercy for ourselves. There is no hint of exceptions and God means what He says.

Not forgiving someone who offends you doesn't mean that you lose your salvation, but your refusal to forgive discolors your experience of God's grace. By not weeding out the roots of bitterness as they spring up, you will soon be controlled by the full-blown fruit of unforgiveness.  Don't let the smallest grudge or littlest insult have room to grow.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (Eph. 4:32)

The Bible instructs us to settle our difference before we part; "Be angry, and yet do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity" (Eph. 4:27-27 NASB). There are obvious reasons why God wants you to solve a disagreement quickly. For one, when you bring the right kind of closure to a hurtful matter, you free yourself and the other person emotionally and spiritually. Those who refuse to extend forgiveness are the losers. Nothing soothes a guilt-worn conscience like the forgiveness and love of God.

When you forgive others, you do what Jesus did for you. You also align your life with His standards of obedience. Forgiveness is not always easy, but it is essential to emotional and physical health. God promises to personally deal with those who have harmed you (Rom. 12:19).  However, many people refuse to wait on Him.

They want vengeance, and they want it now. It's seems to be the attitude of many in America today. "Its all about ME". Many people don't care what they say, or who they hurt, if it benefits them. After all it's all about ME.

If this is your attitude, ask God to remind you of how your life looked to Him before He saved you. Even if you were six or sixty, you, like all people, deserved death. Yet through the work of His wondrous grace and forgiveness, you were given eternal life.

Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled (Heb. 12:15).

Jesus was specific about forgiving those who hurt us. The reason? He never wants us to become ensnared by bitterness. Members of the early church knew the score when it came to abuse. Many suffered beating, verbal attacks, and even death, all because they were followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus told us that we would have trouble in this world. We should always be willing to live our lives as children of God. When trails come your way; can people see Jesus in your life? Can they see the love of God?

 County Jail Communicator

The purpose of this column is to share the love of Jesus with you. May He speak to your heart through these words.

We all have giants in our life. What is your giant? Have you lost your job? Are you or someone you love terminally ill? Is the time you are serving in prison getting to you? Have you lost your home and don't know where you will live now? Maybe you are going through a divorce or your children are addicted to drugs or alcohol. Whatever hardship you are having today, that has become your giant. You have no idea how to deal with it and overcome it. But even worse, thinking about it paralyzes you and leaves you full of fear. You discuss it with your family and friends, but nobody can give you specific ways to solve the problem, to defeat the giant, or to keep you from breaking out in a sweat every time you think about it.

The Israelites in the Old Testament of the Bible faced giants too. You all know the story of Israel being led out of slavery in Egypt by God working His power through Moses, and how God parted the Red Sea so they could walk across on dry land, then closing the sea behind them to drown their enemies who were chasing them. Then God led these millions of people across the desert, providing them with water and food as needed. During this time, God was earning the trust of Israel, proving to them that He alone would and could provide for their every need, that He had a great and awesome plan for their lives.

In Numbers chapter 13, verse 1, God spoke to the leader of Israel, Moses. In verse 2, God told Moses to send out men to spy out the land of Canaan, the land that God was giving to Israel. So, Moses called a leader from each of Israel's 12 tribes, sat them down, and told them in verse 17-20 to go and check out the land, to see what the land was like, whether the people there were strong or weak, few or many, whether there were big cities or small camps, if the land was rich or poor. Then in verse 20, Moses told the men something that caught my eye. He told the men to be of good courage. I looked up the word 'courage' in my Strong's Concordance, and it said the word means to seize, to take hold of, to withstand. He wanted these men to understand that it didn't matter what they heard or saw in this new land, God had already given them the land, but they had to walk into it and take possession of it.

Well, the men did go into Canaan and checked it out. They spent 40 days doing everything God had commanded Moses, their families, and their friends in verses 26-33 what they had seen. Verse 27 has the men telling everyone, "We went to the land you sent us to explore. It does flow with milk and honey, and has great fruit. We even brought some back. But there's just one problem. The people who live there are really big and strong. As a matter of fact, they are GIANTS! They all live in large, fortified cities". When the people heard this news, they all started getting scared.

Now there were two men out of the 12 who served God with all their hearts, and they believed God would help them drive out these giants from the land that God had promised Israel. Their names were Caleb and Joshua. When Caleb saw all the people getting upset, he stood up in verse 30 and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession (of the land), for we are well able to overcome it!" However, the other 10 men who went with him and Joshua stood up in verse 31 and said, "We are NOT able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are". They went on to remind all the people of Israel in verses 32-33 that they saw giants in the new land, and that the giants were so large that they felt like grasshoppers!

In Numbers chapter 14 verses 6-9, Joshua told the people that God knew there were giants in the land,  but God would drive them out of the land if only they would trust God and move into the land. But the people decided against trusting God and decided to try to head back into Egypt and into slavery again! Can you believe that?

Because they refused to trust God, He allowed them to wonder around in the desert for 40 years until they all died -- all except Moses, Caleb, and Joshua. He then allowed Caleb and Joshua to enter and live in Canaan. And true to His Word; He drove out the giants and all their enemies as long as they trusted and listened to God.

Do you think that Israel and the people who lived there were any better or worse than you? The Bible says that every one is the same in God's eyes, that no one is better than anyone else. If you put your faith in God through His only Son, Jesus, you too can and will inherit all the goodness and peace that God promised and delivered to Joshua and Caleb. He alone can defeat and overcome the giants in your life. Ask Him for the courage, and you too will be an overcomer. Possess what God has in store for you!       Gene

Action & Relationships

This column is written by Dennis in hope that you will take the necessary action to have a true relationship with God.

Prayer

How often do you pray? Once a day, once a week, once a month or never? And when you pray, what do you pray for? Yourself, family, friends, enemies, or just when you are in trouble! I'm sure we all know the last one. "Oh God, please get me out of this mess, and I'll never do it again." I know I've made that statement a lot of times in my life, and I'm sure some of you have also.

When you pray, think of the following:

Prayer can change things

Don't neglect prayer because the situation seems irreversible. Pray for yourself, your family, your friends and enemies always asking God to help them and for the forgiveness of your sins.

When you pray, make it a reverent prayer

Don't be afraid to approach God with your prayers. Have respect for who He is and what He can do for you. He's there for us and wants us to communicate with Him, through prayer.

Tell God everything through your prayers

Talk to Him with openness, vulnerability, and honesty. Don't hide anything from Him, remember He knows ALL. Don't hide a sin from Him because you think it's too small. He forgives ALL.

Unexpected answers when we pray

Remember even though we may ask God for something or help through prayer because of a crisis or problem for example, He hears us, but may leave that situation in place, and give us the strength to deal with it.

So in closing, Remember prayer is a mighty tool in approaching God. Pray always, not just once in a while or when you feel like it. Always thank God in your prayers for what He has done for you. Remember also, that through prayer we have access to the one who loves us, knows us, cares for us, and is molding us into His image. So stay strong in the faith and always in the Lord. Pray for me as I will for you, so someday we'll be in that city we call heaven.

Harvest Time

A Time To Reflect

The pumpkins are ready to be picked. The leaves on the trees have changed colors. It’s time to wear your favorite sweater or windbreaker. All is evident of a new season, a time to reflect.

As you look back to spring and then to summer, where has God been? When was the last time you had made contact with him?  Was he only there in your trying or troubled times?

Was he a part of your every new day? Or did you forget, what it really means to pray!

Did you pray for those in need? Or did you just walk away quickly and not make time.

We have heard it before, you reap the harvest of what you have sowed. Just as the seasons change, so can you change. What’s in your harvest field? What will you be harvesting this fall? If the fruit of your labors doesn’t taste good .... then plant a different seed. After the ground has been worked, and the seeds has been planted, then they still require follow-up.....like WEEDING and WATERING.

Take this time to reflect on your harvest time.

God’s Connections

The Lord has been leading Marybeth to write about the connections we make in prison.

God's Plan

We are unique and precious in the sight of God (Jeremiah 29:11). This tells us that He has a plan and a purpose for everyone of us. God give everyone of His children special gifts and abilities. All of us have a unique purpose in God's plan.

About 10 years ago, God called me to use my voice for Him. All my life I sang in small bands - but I was really using my gifts for the devil. When I started to sing to the Lord, something changed in me. About 5 years after that He called me to play the piano. It is my purpose; even in prison, and it completes everything in me. There's no way to accurately describe it. I know from experience the devil works overtime to rob us from our self-esteem. I believe he does this so we won't realize how precious we are to God. We are vital to His plan on the earth.

Today, if you have been struggling with confidence in yourself or in God's Word, I want to encourage you to stop listening to all those condemning thoughts the devil is trying to beat you up with!

Remember, you are God's creation; made in His image -- and reborn of His Spirit. No one is like you and no one ever will be. So don't let anyone ever tell you what you can't do. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

God bless You. In His love,

Marybeth

The fruit in your life, is a direct result of what you have planted in your daily garden. Everyone has heard it said that you reap what you sow. The Bible is clear, direct and TRUE.

This is so true is every way of life. We reap what we have sowed. The Garden of your life, for daily living, is so important ...... as it makes up who we are and what we stand for....or what we choose not to stand for.

As you start to examine your own life, and see some weeds, don’t just look at them, PULL them out of your life. Weeds will be weeds.....for they will never stop growing. They try to choke-out, everything that is good, in your garden. In Psalms 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts; And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Don’t let others tell you what to plant, but ask the Lord of Lords what is needed in your garden of DAILY living. Emphasis is on ‘DAILY” living. As it says in Luke 9:23 “Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (NIV)

Remember ......weeds will grow with NO effort on your part.....just like sin. Sin comes easy and with NO effort. The price of sin cost God HUGE. The price has been PAID in FULL by our savior and Lord JESUS CHRIST. Let us examine our OWN lives daily. Don’t get lazy. It’s a day, by day battle that goes on in the spiritual realm for our souls and the souls of our friends and family. Know this......we will NOT be defeated ...... we can live in VICTORY if we CHOOSE to.

The Bible studies that are being held behind the walls, in nursing homes, hospitals and in the homes, are growing. God is blessing us, as we grow into a better understanding of His word and who He is.

The Harvest

“And He said, So is this the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow up, he knoweth not how”.

“All by itself the soil produces grain - first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”

Ø Mark 4:26-29

“My food,” said Jesus, is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work. Do you not say, “Four months more and then the harvest? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he is glad together. Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for.   Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

Ø John 4:34-38

Then He said to His disciples, The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into the field.”

 Ø Matthew 9:37-38

Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. The owner’??s servant came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?” An enemy did this, he replied. “The servant asked him, Do you want us to go and pull them up?” No, he answered, because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: Fist collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.”

Ø Matthew 13:24-30

“then He left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.” He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is The Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them in the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are Angels. “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His kingdom everything that causes sin and who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”

Ø Matthew 13:36-43

“I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one “like a son of man” with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe. So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.”?

Ø Revelation 14:14-16

The devil knows that Jesus is coming for His harvest .... His bride ....SOON. The Bible tells us that the enemy comes to seek and destroy just like those weeds tried to do to the wheat. Take the time NOW, to check your garden for weeds, that maybe in your life, and ask Jesus to forgive you for your sins and ask Him into you life! Stop feeding the weeds, SIN, in your life and one by one watch them die.

What are you harvesting in your life?

I want to ask a question of all of us, Did Jesus die the awful death that he did for us to continue to live the way that we are? We all are so undeserving of his mercy and his love, but his unconditional love is there for ALL who come to him and ask forgiveness and repent, turn from their ways, and invite him into their heart.

Adam and Eve chose to rebel by “interpreting for themselves with a meaning that suited themselves”. God’s plain and simple instructions, just as humanity has generally done ever since - perhaps the reason that we humans so often disagree on the meaning of what is plainly written in the Bible.

As we examine our own life, I wonder if we are pulling the weeds out that may be choking our spiritual growth.”

The harvest is all around us. Do not let the weeds take root in your life. The weeds will take up a lot of your time, so at the end of the day, we are so tired to do any harvesting. We must make time for what is really important and that is the harvest. Only the things done for Christ will last! Life your life as a witness.

“For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also” (Matt. 6:21).

Behind The Walls

Here is a poem that I would like to share with everyone.

ONE MANS LONELINESS

A rather hot summer day, I lie alone on my bed, Soon I get out my paper and pen, I put thoughts in my head.

I am alone, day after day, I stay here with-in my walls, There are no letters for me, My name is passed at mail call.

Like a picture that I can see, A mountain seems to touch the sky, I now have four walls around me, And you are wondering why.

The many letters that I wrote, Not a one ever came back, None were even answered, To me, A stab in the back.

I have built my walls very high, They are also very, very think, They are made from super hardened steel, Not of mortar and crumbling brick.

Father’s Day has come an gone, I stand alone in the sun, I waited weeks for a card, From my three children, not a one.

They say that no man is an island, That no one stands alone, But I can truly tell you, That I am harder than stone.

I am an island, I stand alone, Truly forgotten by those I knew, I am always surrounded by water, And the sky above me is always blue.          Donald

THERE’S NO OTHER WAY

We are about to start over, On a whole new life of Love, There are many hurts we need to heal,

All with the help from the Lord above.

Each of us was deeply hurt, By people in our painful past, But no matter what the reason, Our Love is being built to last.

Everyday and every night, We take time to talk and confide, For we know it’?s the only way, To heal the hurts we have inside.

Our hurts and scars are deep, Some may never-ever go away, We must truly help each other, For us, There’s no other way. --- Donald

I want to share this poem that was sent to me....not sure on the author.

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; In cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!

In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; There’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.

From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; In our doubt there is believing; in our death, a resurrection; at last, a victory, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

London - Lo.C.I.

To each one of us was given a measure of faith. If you have received a letter from God, it may have went something like this;

HAVE FAITH

I see a lot of things from up here that you can’t see from where you are.

Have faith in me that I know what I’m doing. Trust me, you wouldn’?t want the view from my eyes.

I will continue to care for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust me.

Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be?

Once you’ve given your burdens to me, quit trying to take them back. Trust in me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trails.

Problems with the kids? Put them on my list. Problems with finances? Put it on my list. Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For my sake, put it on my list.

I want to help you. All you have to do is ask, have faith and trust in me.

You are very precious to me. Don’t ever forget that!

With all my heart I love you,

GOD

In Praise of Jesus

I raise my hands in praise of Jesus, I’m on my knees to honor our Lord.

He’s everything my life needs for completion, He’s my armor, my shield, and my sword.

I was deep in a pit of darkness, I was bound by Satan in chains

Jesus entered my heart and forgave me, He washed me clean with heavenly rains.

I give all the glory to Jesus, I was lost but now I’m found. He said,

if I’d honor and obey Him, He’d always keep me safe and sound. Carl

Trumbull - T.C.I.

“When praying about everything is the way to make Jesus Lord of my life.”

When we realize that praying about everything is the way to make Jesus Lord of our lives we capture the essence of the true Christian religion. When we ask Him questions and seek His guidance we are being obedient to His commands. He wants us to do the will of the Father and for us to ask what the Father’s will is for all situations that may arise during each day. When we do what He wants us to do we have a Christ-centered life and die to our own selfish ambition.

This talking relationship begins immediately upon conversion when we accept Jesus as both Lord and Savior and are born again. We then have a direct access to the Father through Jesus for all our needs.

Throughout each day, there are only two decisions we need to make:

1. Whether or not to pray

2. Whether or not to do what God says.

It all hinges on whether we want God’s direction or not.

In Jesus is hidden all knowledge & wisdom. He has the solutions to all our problems. We don’t know often times what is best for us because of our limited view of the world. And yet, Jesus knows it all from the beginning until the end & He wants us to rest in the plan that He has pre-ordained.

We must always be mindful that our talking with God is based on His worthiness & not our own. It is Jesus’ job to break through barriers since He is stronger than Satan & stronger than ourselves. We can rest on the awesome power of our Creator to help us pray for the things as He is able to do far more than we would ever dream of -- infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes. Ephesians 3:20

The main line of communication stays open until we fall out of fellowship by sinning & going our own way.

We must always be ready to confess our sins, knowing that He is able to forgive us of all sins & completely restore our fellowship with Him. The study also offered a 3-point covenant we may use:

1. Promise that you will pray about everything (with God’s help)

2. Promise to do what He says, acting upon the first answer you get;

3. Leave the results to Him. Jesus does not want us to engage in worrying and wants us to trust Him for the results.        Bert

When You Look Deep Within

When you look deep within, in God you will find a friend.

You will know your reason for living, it begins with a spiritual way of giving.

For a long time I was misled, until I picked up the "Holy Bible" and I read.

I suddenly discovered a message so clear, that it's taking away all things that I feared.

Love and truth was Jesus' way of life, and only His heavenly Father will remove all of your strife.

But eternal life and salvation was something I never really did see until I took a look at nobody else but me.

Now I can hold my head up high filled with pride the truth is I'm a Christian, and I no longer need to hide.

You know the Lord Jesus gave me hope and today I no longer use and kinds of dope.

Yes, God took that devil of my back, you know that demon they call it crack.

Through the Word I've changed my path, filled with the Holy Ghost and a spiritual bath.

Now my light is shining so very bright, cause through His love and mercy I've been shown what's right.

God gave us the sun that shines so bright, and God gave us the moon that glows throughout the night.

And yes, God gave us the sky that is so pretty and blue. But most of all Jesus, your Father gave us You.

The Bible is........

To the traveler it's a road map To the runner it's a path To the searcher it is a treasure To the sinner it is wrath.

To the believer it's salvation To the slothful it's a prod To the humble it is patience To the doubtful trusting in God.

To the leader it's a direction To the follower it's a guide To the trusting it's a heaven To the scared a place to hide.

To the preacher it's a sermon To the convert it's a prize To the youth it is a challenge To the aged a home up in the sky.

To the hungry it's the bread of life To the thirsty it's a spring To the child it's a story To the lost a heavenly King.

To the pendant it's a pardon To the wayward it's a rod To the weary it is comfort To the faithful it is God.

We need to encourage one another in the Lord. If you have some words of encouragement, poems, or a short story you would like to share, please mail it to us, or email it to us. When you send your letter please print so we can read it. It's good to encourage one another. We all need it. I would like to thank everyone who has mailed articles in over the years. May the Lord bless you as you reach out to encourage others. Our address; Agape Outreach P.O. Box 8183 Canton, Oh. 44711 or email to; Newsletter@agapeoutreach.org

God has wagered He can make something great of you; the devil has gambled that you will fail. Your actions will prove one of them right.

When the enemy reminds you of your past; remind him of his future!
